Adoption Terms
Please read and seek to understand, in full, the below adoption terms. Please note that applications placed after reading and agreeing to our terms of adoption will go onto a waitlist. Applications are approved when we have rats available for adoption and go in order of applications received. Some applications may take up to 3 months to get to, and we apologize for the wait.
We understand that in the meantime, you may find other ratties to love and adopt, and that’s ok! When we reach out to approve your application, just please respond to us to let us know so that we can move on to the next application. Applications will remain on file for future, so if you wish to skip once, you’re still reserved in line for next time if you let us know it’s your intent to do so. Please do not place an application if you are unsure about adopting pet rats or feel that your situation may change.
Pet rats are a 3 year commitment and applications should only be from families ready to make that commitment.
We do not allow breeding.
Adopting Customers may not breed (for sale or otherwise), rehome or lend to any agent or other third party for any reason, including, but not limited to, breeding or other services,
unless Teddy Bear Rats provides Customer with prior written authorization. In the event that an intentional or unintentional pregnancy occurs, Customer agrees to return the pregnant rat and all offspring and forfeits any rights to re-home, sell, or transfer to any third party at the Customer’s expense.
Returns Always Accepted.
Our rats are our responsibility to home with the best judgement. If for any reason you are no longer able to keep your rats from Teddy Bear Rats, you may return them for any reason.
Teddy Bear Rats does not allow the re-sale, or re-homing of our rats without written consent, regardless of the circumstance and holds the first right of refusal.
Teddy Bear Rats will not refund any rat’s adoption fees from the moment a Customer accepts the rat at pick-up.
Quality of Life Agreement.
The Customer agrees to provide a high commitment to care for rats and provide sanitary, enriched, and safe environments, nutritious foods and clean water daily, human interaction daily, a rat companion through the duration of their life, and occasionally veterinary assistance for the duration of their life.
Customers may not provide housing without flat and chew proof flooring, without 30”x20”x30” cubic floor space per rat, or more than 1/2“ metal bar spacing around the entire enclosure including the floor.
Any Customer found to not adhere to the basic quality of life requirements agrees to take immediate corrective action or return the rats to Teddy Bear Rats at the cost of the Customer.
Our Pets Are Forever Pets.
Customer cannot sell, transfer, or make available to a third party without written authorization from Teddy Bear Rats. Please understand that rats can live up to around 3 years and require a commitment to care for them and provide sanitary and enriched and safe environments, nutritious foods and clean water daily, human interaction daily, a rat companion through the duration of their life, and occasionally veterinary assistance for the duration of their life. Please do not adopt with impulse.
Monies and Financial Obligations.
Teddy Bear Rats does not offer refunds after a rat is accepted and in the position of the Customer.
Teddy Bear Rats Reservation Deposits guarantee the Customer a rat of their choosing as available and are redeemable at any point and time. These Reservation Deposits are non-refundable and are a service fee that enables the reservation of a rat. Reservation Deposits will act as a full price credit towards the Adoption Fee of a rat.
Adoption fees are due at time of selection of a specific rat and are paid in full. Adoption Fees are 1/2 refundable when a Customer changes their mind for any reason and does not accept the rat of their choosing. Rats must be accepted within 2 weeks following their 8th week of life or 2 weeks after the Adoption Fee is paid if the rat is at an eligible age of 8 weeks or more. Rats not accepted within this 2 week period are subject to a boarding fee at the discretion of Teddy Bear Rats and may be eligible for 1/2 refund of the full adoption fee and deemed as not accepted.
Rats that do not meet Teddy Bear Rats Guarantee are eligible for a full refund.

Delivery Terms.
Teddy Bear Rats will make attempts to deliver rats to a location up to 20 miles north and south of North San Antonio, Austin, Waco, Waxahachi, and DFW along highway I35 at a safe location such as a PetSmart, PetCo, or other place. Teddy Bear Rats does not deliver to any residential area or house. Delivery is at the availability of Teddy Bear Rats.
Teddy Bear Rats will allow shipping where the Customer has made appropriate arrangements from 78070 that are deemed safe to Travel for the rats by Teddy Bear Rats.
Teddy Bear Rats Guarantee.
The Customer will receive a sane and sound rat in exchange for the full adoption fee.
Sane includes that the rat is not aggressive in nature at the time of acceptance and that the rat is in good state of mind.
Sound includes that the rat; is not spayed or neutered, is not pregnant, does not have any visible or suspected illness, has clear eyes, has clear ears, and dry nose with no indicator of a live infection or respiratory illness, is able to move freely and without pain or lameness, and is at an appropriate weight for their developmental state.
Rats may be altered in the form of clipping of the ears at any point prior to the acceptance and the Customer is not obligated to be asked permission or given any notice prior or after.
Rats are accepted as is at point of acceptance. Rats may experience some signs of stress due to travel immediately following or up to 4 days after and Teddy Bear Rats may not be held liable for any Customer Travel.
